When Was the Dodge and RAM Separation?

Before we go over the Dodge and RAM separation, let’s take a quick step back. The Dodge brand began around 1900 and didn’t feature trucks until around 1914. Dodge vehicles quickly became known for producing reliable vehicles, especially when it came to work trucks.

So, when did the RAM name become associated with Dodge? RAM originally was the name of a Dodge light-duty pickup truck, along with the Ramcharger SUV and the Dodge RAM van. Dodge and RAM separated in 2009 when the company that owns RAM and Dodge decided to rebrand and split the two brands. Dodge was rebranded to focus more on industry segments like cars and adrenaline-fueled vehicles, and the RAM brand was to focus more on utility and more rugged trucks.

Who owns RAM?

Chrysler or modern-day Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) bought Dodge in 1981. From 1981 to 2009, their pickup trucks were known as “Dodge RAM.” So to answer the question, “Is RAM Dodge still?” No, RAM is no longer Dodge but they are both owned by FCA. RAM and Dodge are still apart of the same company, and the only difference is that Dodge vehicles no longer have pickup trucks, and almost all of their pickup trucks are under the RAM brand.
